Description
Perusal Score
A paraphrase from the program notes:
This piece has its origins in a piece composed for the same ensemble and studio (the Florida State University Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble/Studio) in the spring of 2024. It was merely a movement, meant to be the first part of a larger whole. That larger whole did not materialize for the next year and a half, since the vision for this piece needed time to ruminate. From when that first movement was completed and premiered until the time of completing this piece, I experienced a great deal of turmoil in my personal life. It was at the lowest point within this turmoil that I drafted the cornerstones of what would become the later movements of the piece, although those would also need time to ruminate, like the initial first movement.
Each movement depicts a different aspect of said turmoil: depression, rumination and anger, the climb towards the light and the light itself.
The minimum instrumentation for this work is a tuba-euphonium octet — four euphoniums, four tubas.
